Let say that the bombing of Dresden is military justify. Because it is a communication nod. Why not use HE only and keep the civilian safe in their bomb shelter?


And why not inflict the maximum damage?

One of The side effect of using Incendiary is that it consume Oxygen.You could use this to suffocate people hiding in shelter.


So who cares if you can inflict the maximum damage. Those bombing runs were not only about destroying strategically important sites but also about diminishing the moral of the enemy. At that the allies succeeded. May be you are forgetting of which exact enemy the allies were fighting.


(that is why i said it is a great weapon of mass destruction) It is the use of Incendiary that i don't understand?


Certainly not the first time. The Germans and Finns starved the entire 5 million city of Leningrad killing over 2 million people in a hungry death (about 2/5 population of Finland at the time), destroying supply and evacuation convoys full of women and children, shelling and bombing the city constantly. You choose.



The rest well is part of the joy of warfare.

Aside from burning building, what use is incendiary? It is Great for "shocking", demoralizing, destroying a city, creating mass civilian refugee,and above all suffocating civilian .


As I said before at that time nobody really cared; especially for the Germans. I wouldn't.


But is it the best weapon to use, to destroy Rail, Road, Bridge, Factory, target in bunker? What it the story behind the making of incendiary bomb anyway? What is their purpose?


The purpose is to burn things and they are good at it as well. What's the purpose Flashette rounds, or Napalm, even land mines? To kill, to maim, to demoralize - I can think of many uses. What's more interesting every country uses this stuff if it is available including all the progressive Western countries. I don't really understand of what is it you are complaining about? Is it the number of people killed during WWII? There were some 60 million all over the world, 45 in Europe alone and still counting, including some of my relatives. Some 35 thousand was just a some small number. In eight days of Operation Bagration the Soviets killed over 350,000 Germans alone - in the 6 month of Stalingrad the Germans killed over a million Soviets where it's roughly 6000 people daily. So every six days they would kill the amount equivalent of Dresden. As I said before welcome to the glorious days of WWII.
